2023 Block 22 Syrah

The 2023 Block 22 Syrah is bursting with aromas of black cherry, blueberry compote and pie crust. The entry is rich and mouth coating with complex flavors of blackberry, olallieberry and candied fruit. A soft and velvety finish is complimented by flavors of cinnamon and caramel.

Aging Recommendation: Drink now through 2050.

Harvest Date: Block 22 Syrah - 9/29/23

Fermentation: The Syrah was destemmed and fermented in a combination of new and neutral French oak barrels (with their heads removed). The barrel becomes both the fermentation and the aging vessel. The fruit was coldsoaked for four days prior to each barrel being hand-inoculated. Three to five punchdowns daily helped to extract flavors and tannins from the fruit and oak.

Aging: Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new.

Pairing Suggestions: Pair with duck, BBQ, grilled steaks and reduction sauces.
