UPS Wine Delivery Attempts Are Changing: Here's What You Need to Know

Halter Ranch Wine Gift Box

UPS has updated its shipping policy regarding adult beverage deliveries after the first missed delivery attempt.

Starting June 1, 2026, if the first delivery attempt is unsuccessful, UPS will automatically redirect the package to a nearby UPS Access Point rather than attempting delivery the following day. The shipment will be held at the Access point for up to 7 days at no charge. If the order is not picked up within that timeframe, the package will be returned.

This adjustment helps reduce the amount of time wine spends out with the carrier, protecting your wine from extreme temperatures and minimizing handling. It also offers you greater flexibility to retrieve packages on your own schedule.

** Please be aware that UPS has begun redirecting packages to a UPS store following the initial delivery attempt for any shipments going to Texas, as well as for any orders sent directly from our Paso Robles or Temecula locations.

What To Expect

  • HOW IT WORKS: After the first missed delivery attempt, UPS will leave an InfoNotice with the Access Point name and address.

  • TRACKING INFO: Tracking will update in real time and customers subscribed to UPS notifications will receive alerts.

  • ID CHECKS: A valid 21+ ID matching the shipping label address is required for pickup.

  • FEES: There is no fee for retrieving a package at an Access Point.

  • LOCATIONS: Access Points are typically 0 to 15 minutes away from the delivery address. You can expect a distance of a few miles in urban destinations and no more than 10 miles in rural areas. If no Access Point is available within 10 miles, UPS will continue with standard delivery attempts and return the package after the third delivery attempt.

  • ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS: Recipients may continue using UPS My Choice if they prefer alternative delivery options.

At present, FedEx does not intend to alter its policy regarding the handling of adult beverage shipments. Should you wish to switch your preferred shipping provider to FedEx, please inform us by replying to this email, contacting club@halterranch.com, or calling (805) 226-9455, and we will be happy to assist in changing your shipping preferences.
