Halter Ranch Becomes the First Paso Robles Winery to Achieve Glyphosate Residue Free Certification by The Detox Project

Halter Ranch Winemaker Kevin Sass and Vineyard Manager Zeb Little

We’re starting spring strong with some exciting news from the heart of Paso Robles wine country: Halter Ranch has officially become the first Paso Robles winery to earn Glyphosate Residue Free Certification from The Detox Project.

This milestone is an exciting step forward for us, and one we’re incredibly proud of. It reflects our dedication to keeping our bodies and our planet healthy through organic and regenerative farming practices.

What Is Glyphosate & Why Does Certification Matter?

Glyphosate is the most heavily used synthetic herbicide in the world, widely used in conventional agriculture to kill weeds. It’s been linked to potential human health and environmental risks. In 2015, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans.”

Glyphosate Residue Free Certification verifies that products have been tested for glyphosate residues by third-party accredited labs and meet The Detox Project’s rigorous standard of no detectable glyphosate down to parts-per-billion levels.

To earn this certification, our wines underwent:

  • Independent laboratory testing

  • Third-party verification

  • Ongoing retesting to confirm zero detectable glyphosate residues

Glyphosate Residue Free Certified Wines

We submitted more than 30 Halter Ranch wines for testing, all of which passed by a mile. These wines include:

We hope that gives you extra peace of mind and makes every sip taste even sweeter.

Growing a Better Future With Regenerative Organic Farming

For Halter Ranch, Glyphosate Residue Free Certification is part of long-term commitment to organic winegrowing and regenerative agriculture. It represents the latest achievement in a comprehensive program that extends to our Temecula, CA, and Fredericksburg, TX, locations.

Our Estate’s vineyards are certified organic by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) and have also earned Regenerative Organic Certification® from the Regenerative Organic Alliance, a holistic standard that focuses on soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness.

We prioritize soil vitality, ecosystem balance, and sustainability through practices like:

  • Cover cropping to protect and nourish soils

  • Composting to build long-term fertility

  • Biodiversity corridors to support beneficial insects and wildlife

  • Sheep grazing to naturally manage vineyard growth

  • Water conservation systems

  • Renewable energy initiatives

  • Low-impact winery operations

By integrating time-honored viticultural traditions with forward-thinking environmental standards, we’re always striving to set a benchmark for responsible winegrowing on California’s Central Coast.

A Word From Our Winemaker

“Achieving Glyphosate Residue Free Certification is an important validation of the work we’ve been doing in our vineyards for years,” shares Winemaker Kevin Sass. “This certification confirms that our farming practices align with our belief that great wine begins with healthy soil and a thriving ecosystem. For us, this milestone is about stewardship of the land, of our team, and of the people who enjoy our wines.”

As Paso Robles continues to gain global recognition for quality and innovation, we’re proud to lead by example, proving that premium winemaking and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

Whether you’ve been enjoying Halter Ranch wines for years or are just discovering us, your support allows us to keep pushing forward with cleaner farming, healthier ecosystems, more thoughtfully crafted wines, and a more sustainable future.

Here’s to wine you can feel good about drinking, from vineyard to glass.
