Winemaker’s Notes:

Our Ancestor Estate Reserve is the very best our estate has to offer each year, without regard to varietal or blending parameters.  This Bordeaux-style red blend displays an opaque garnet color and intense, complex aromas of blackberries, vanilla, earth, smoke, tea leaf, tar, clove and star anise.  On the medium-bodied palate, ripe blackberry, black cherry, cassis, nutmeg, spice and toasted oak flavors are harmoniously balanced by seamlessly integrated tannins and bright acidity.  Delicious now with a wide range of beef, lamb and rich pork dishes, it will develop beautifully for another 10-12 years.

Halter Ranch is home to an ancient Coast Live Oak. Surrounded by our vineyard, this tree has been designated one of the largest specimens of its kind. A witness to the ages, it stands as a symbol of heritage and preservation. We chose the name Ancestor for our Estate Reserve in honor of this ancient tree.
