Eusebio Rico, Vineyard Foreman
Eusebio Rico was born in Guanajuato, Mexico where he grew up on his family's 60 acre farm. In 1990 Eusebio moved to Northern California to work in the wine business. He worked at Rabbit Ridge in Windsor for 14 years and moved with the company when they relocated to Paso Robles. In October 2006, Eusebio joined Halter Ranch Vineyard. He supervises the Vineyard Team as the Assistant Winegrower. He works closely with Winegrower, Mitch Wyss to make sure all decisions are executed and all viticultural practices are completed properly and on time.
Eusebio is committed to sustainable farming. “The good care nature is very important to our operation. I like taking responsibility for the health and safety of the ranch and the people who work here.” With the long growing season in Paso Robles, Eusebio finds each day challenging, but educational. “We are always learning. We watch and see how the vines respond to our care. Each vintage is different and we have to pay close attention to every detail.” There is some time to relax though, and Eusebio enjoys the benefit of living at the ranch where he can experience the quiet, peaceful evenings..
Eusebio has two brothers in Paso Robles and one sister in South Carolina. The rest of his family lives in Mexico where he is able to visit twice a year. Eusebio talks about Mexico as his home for retirement, but before that he hopes to travel to many places, especially Spain and Italy. As a young bachelor, he will stay in Paso Robles for now, and continue his work at Halter Ranch. What does he miss about Mexico? “La comida Mexicana de su mama!”
